Individual and Couples Therapy
Merida Psychologist
Psychologist Mario Cañamar, Professional support for a fuller life.
Seeking psychological support is an act of courage. It is recognizing that you deserve clarity, well‑being, and a life where your emotions don’t control you, but instead accompany you in a healthy way.
I’m Mario Cañamar, a clinical psychologist, and my mission is to offer you a safe, professional, and human space where you can understand what you’re going through, heal what hurts, and build new ways of relating to yourself and to others.

Psychologist in Merida
Need help?
If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, fear, anger and pain and are feeling stuck, it is time to look for help.
If your relationship is no longer what it used to be or perhaps there was an affair, couples therapy can help you find your way and heal.
A space for you: safe, confidential, and free of judgment.
Therapy is a place where you can speak freely. Here, you don’t have to pretend that everything is fine or downplay what you feel. My practice is designed so that you feel heard, understood, and respected from the very first moment. Confidentiality is absolute, and each session is tailored to your needs, your pace, and your goals.
Many people come to therapy feeling that “they shouldn’t feel this way,” that “others have worse problems,” or that “they should be able to handle it on their own.” But the truth is that everyone needs support at some point. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and seeking professional help is a mature, responsible, and deeply human decision.

Individual Psychotherapy
Adolescents and Adults
As a psychologist I work from a mental health perspective, instead of a disease framework. Works with your strengths, using positive psychology and techniques to increase wellbeing, happiness and a sense of belonging.

Couples counselling and support

What a therapy session with me is like
Each session with the Merida psychologist lasts approximately 50 minutes. During that time, we explore what you’re experiencing, identify patterns, work on strategies, and move toward your goals. Therapy can be in person or online, depending on your needs.
In the first session, you tell me what brings you to therapy. Then we explore your symptoms, emotions, and context. After that, we define realistic and achievable goals, and I explain how we will work together and what you can expect from the process.
From there, each session becomes a space for reflection, learning, and transformation.

The autistic spectrum and its diagnosis
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that influences the way a person communicates, learns, and relates to others. It is called a “spectrum” because not all individuals show the same symptoms or with the same intensity; some may have significant difficulties with social interaction, while others display special talents in areas such as memory, art, or mathematics. How Is ASD Diagnosed? Unlike other medical conditions, there is no laboratory test or blood analysis that can confirm autism. Diagnosis is based on observing the person’s development and behavior. This can be complemented with certain psychometric tests; however, these are

Frequent Questions about Anxiety in Adults
What Is Anxiety? Anxiety is a feeling of fear, worry, and uneasiness. A person may sweat, feel restless and tense, and experience heart palpitations. It can be a normal reaction to stress. While anxiety can help someone face a situation (giving an energy boost or helping them focus) for people with anxiety disorders, the fear is not temporary and can become overwhelming. Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress, but when it becomes excessive and persistent, it turns into a disorder that affects daily life. If you experience anxiety symptoms that significantly impact your life, it’s important to seek

Awareness is the first boundary.
Feeling off after visiting family doesn’t mean something went wrong, it means an old system stayed online longer than it needed to. After spending time with family you may not recognize yourself. You might be more reactive, quieter, more on edge, more submissive or more defensive. That’s not you backsliding, it’s a role getting reactivated. Families don’t relate to who you are now, they relate to who you had to be then. The responsible one, the pacemaker, the easy one, the problem solver, the one who got blamed, the truth speaker or the one who didn’t need much. Those roles
